A Year in Reading: Peter Ho Davies

Peter Ho Davies is the director of graduate program in creative writing at the University of Michigan. He is the author of two short story collections, The Ugliest House in the World and Equal Love, and a novel, The Welsh Girl

coverOn the Vanishing of Large Creatures by Susan Hutton: Susan Hutton's remarkable debut was the most simply pleasurable book of poems I read this year (and among the best I've read for many years). Hutton's touch is light - the poems are often casually, playfully erudite - but tender; she cherishes her subjects. Quietly feeling, poem after poem creeps up on you only to sweep you away.

Comments:

I rfecently finished reading "The Welsh Girl", after hearing so much about it on the literary blogs. It was a wonderful novel, very well-constructed story and well-developed characters. It was framed well by the encounters between Rothram and Hess. It definitely was one of my favorite reads for 2007.
